Kia will not withdraw from the China market and will continue to increase investment in research and development.
Beijing News Shell Finance:Will KIA continue to invest in the China market? What localization business has the enterprise promoted for the China market?
Yang Honghai:First of all, Kia will never withdraw from the China market. Kia has always attached great importance to the China market and will pay more attention to it in the future. Following the EV Day in March, Song Husheng, global CEO of Kia, came to China for investigation again today, and stressed that success in China market is the key to Kia’s global success.
In order to better understand the China market and better serve China consumers, we have set up China Institute of Technology, China Forward Digital R&D Center and China Big Data Center in China. Therefore, we can fully combine the characteristics of China market and the needs of consumers in China to conduct targeted product and technology research and development.
Previously, we put forward the concept of "China, China", and EV5 is the product under this concept. Not only did nearly 400 engineers from China participate in the research and development of this model, but the company also extensively investigated the needs of users in China, and combined with the research results, the EV5 was adjusted and optimized several times to better meet the needs of users in China.
We are still trying to follow the characteristics of China market and change with the preferences of users in China. For example, we have cooperated with China head technology companies Baidu and Tencent to bring a car experience that is more suitable for China consumers. On EV5, we took the lead in carrying the car WeChat, which is a leading brand in the joint venture.
In China, electric vehicle users are accustomed to using the "one-stop service" brand APP, so this year we have built the Kia APP, which will be launched in December; For another example, in order to meet the needs of users’ intelligence, we are cooperating with Baidu ERNIE Bot to develop a brand-new car system, and have obtained the L4 automatic driving license in China and started the road test.
In the future, Kia will adhere to the concept of "China, China", continuously increase R&D investment, systematically analyze the characteristics of China market and users’ needs, introduce more innovative technologies and high-value products that meet the needs of China users, and continue to expand investment in China to enhance the comprehensive experience of China users on Kia brand.
In addition, Kia has also firmly practiced social responsibility in China, with accumulated capital investment exceeding 110 million yuan, and won the "Golden Bull Award for Responsibility" issued by the Forum of 100 Responsible Persons for five consecutive years, ranking first among joint venture car companies in social responsibility index for four consecutive years. At the end of October, the company was selected as one of the top ten ESG brands in China automobile industry, which is a recognition of our efforts in environment, society and governance, and the company won the "Responsibility Award" again in the social responsibility exhibition held in Beijing today.
The new car EV5 focuses on the post-80s and post-90s families, and more vehicle configurations will be listed next year.
Beijing News Shell Finance:Kia released its new energy strategy in March 2023. What achievements have been made so far?
Yang Honghai:Kia’s electrification transformation involves many fields. In terms of products, we have achieved two layouts. Kia launched the EV6 in August, positioning the high-energy pure electric coupe. At the auto show, we also launched the EV5 in China for the first time, which is a heavy strategic model of Kia.
In terms of channels, we promote "linkage between old and new". In terms of new channels, brand-new 4S stores that Kia cooperates with large dealer groups such as Simami, Jinlong and Xinhanma have been opened in core cities across the country. At the same time, we are gradually upgrading the national dealer exhibition hall SI 2.0, and Kia will build a more perfect sales and service system that matches the electrification era, and also bring users a more pleasant and convenient new experience.
In terms of charging network, Kia has established a full-speed charging network with "one super, one fast and one slow". First of all, we join hands with Shell to build brand overcharge stations that can realize 800V charging in major cities across the country; At the same time, we also expand the layout of the basic charging network by cooperating with Kuaidian (Energy Chain Smart Power) charging enterprises and laying charging piles for dealers, so as to provide users with efficient and convenient charging services.
In terms of service, we have created a "one-stop service center" for users. We have invested a lot of time and money to develop the brand-new Kia APP, and now it has started internal testing and will be officially launched in December. Kia APP will bring users experience upgrades from all areas of car life such as car purchase, car use, service, socialization and entertainment.
Beijing News Shell Finance:Who will the new car EV5 focus on, and what are the plans for the brand next year?
Yang Honghai:EV5 is a global vehicle launched by Kia in China, and it is also the core vehicle of Kia’s electrification transformation. Our user group will focus on the post-80s and post-90s families who are keen to explore new life and pay attention to quality life. We believe that EV5 will be the "ever-changing intelligent cabin" to accompany home users. In addition to the competitive price of 149,800 yuan, excellent product strength is also a big advantage.
In 2024, in addition to providing the first 530 standard endurance version, we will also launch the long endurance version and GT-Line version next year to meet the diverse needs of users.
